Linen Dresses

Posted on Updated on

Since I knew that we were going to be visiting some hot areas in southeast Asia, not to mention how hot and humid it is here in Florida, I wanted to make a couple of linen dresses. I love linen! I know it wrinkles like crazy but it is so cool in the heat. I just tell myself that linen is upscale and quality.

This pretty dress is light and cool. It has a pleated neckline that was interesting to make. The There are even pleats in the raglan style sleeves.

I find that I can’t use most patterns right out of the envelope, so I do a lot of pattern drafting and adaptation. After doing that to a pattern to fit me, I don’t want to just shelve it. I usually use it at least one more time. So here is the same pattern in another fabric. This linen is a little thicker that the first dress.

With the same pleat adaptation. The pleats are much harder to see with this fabric.

The pattern I used was a fairly old Simplicity pattern #2372

Now that I am looking at it, I am considering making a few tops from this pattern too. It has a very comfortable and flattering fit. Do you ever use linen in your sewing?

Until next time,

Toni
