Today is a Day of Mixed Feelings

Posted on

On a Sunday, shall I say over forty years ago, I was in the hospital giving birth to my first child, my daughter, Teresa. She is a great person, I love her to pieces, and I am so happy she is in my life. Not to mention that she has blessed me with three fabulous grandchildren that I love beyond bounds! Happy, happy Birthday dear Sesa!

On the other hand, today is the day we all should remember, as we munch our way through our barbecue dinners, the men and women who sacrificed for our freedom. I lost friends during the Vietnam War and feel their loss every Memorial Day. Every day, I live with my Vietnam War Vet and I see the residual damage that war did to him. Please take a moment today to think about those that gave their all for each and every one of us in each and every war.

My husband is a veteran too (of more recent wars, they never stop!). The flashbacks and dreams never go away – we are all shaped by our experiences, but where most people remember paper cuts, the veterans remember suppressing fire and machetes.

Bless you Elena, you are a survivor too. I hope for peace in your and your hubby’s hearts and minds. I hope your hubby is being helped by the VA. They have services that are a blessing to our damaged Vets. Best wishes to both of you!
