What exactly is Clear Jel? And why do people who can stuff think it is so great? Well, I am here to tell you all about it. Clear Jel is a modified corn starch. I can’t say if it is non-GMO, but it is sugar free, salt free, vegan and gluten free. It has been used commercially for years and is available to the home cook in as small of an amount as a pound. A pound of Clear Jel is about 3 cups, and as you can see by my recipes for mushroom soup here, a little goes a long way.
We use a lot of beans in our menu. They are economical and tasty. Our favorite beans are pinto beans. I used to cook a big pot of beans for hours and then freeze them for future meals.
